Inspirations

The Yorkshire Dales is where much of my inspiration comes from. Although I wasn’t born here, I count myself incredibly lucky to live and work in this beautiful part of the world. The landscape has a quiet honesty to it — rolling hills shaped by centuries of weather, dry stone walls softened by moss and lichen, and wide skies that constantly change with the light.

Living here has deeply influenced the way I design and weave. The muted greens, earthy browns, greys, and soft golds find their way into my colour palettes, while the textures of grass, stone, and weathered wood inspire the structure and feel of my textiles. There’s a sense of time and tradition in the Dales that resonates with slow, hand-crafted processes — making things carefully, thoughtfully, and with respect for materials.

Locally, the Yorkshire Dales is often called “God’s Own Country” — and while that might be up for debate, it’s easy to understand why. There’s a grounded beauty here that encourages reflection, patience, and connection to the land. My hand-woven textiles are, in many ways, a response to this place: pieces that carry the spirit of the landscape, shaped by nature, heritage, and everyday life in the Dales.
